Rate of deforestation

Rate at which an area or quantity of trees and other types of native vegetation are removed in a given period.
The rate of reforestation is the ratio between the area that lost native vegetation and a unit of time (eg month, day, hour, minute) elapsed between the beginning and the end of deforestation or elimination of native vegetation. It is usually expressed in hectares per day (ha/day) or km2 per day (km2/day). According to a report by MapBiomas, Brazil had an average of 3,795 hectares deforested per day in 2020, which leads to a deforestation rate of an estimated 24 trees each second throughout the year. During 2019, the Amazon lost 21 thousand hectares a day, on average.
