Tipping point

A certain limit or situation that, when reached, would no longer allow a return to the previous situation or state.

An expression that describes a certain limit or situation that, when reached, would no longer allow the return to a previous state. Its use has become more frequent in Brazil in recent years due to scientific estimates that predict the conversion of the Amazon rainforest into a dry environment, with sparse vegetation scenarios. According to publications in the journals Science and Nature, the main agents of this possible transformation are deforestation, fires, and global climate change, all caused by human action.

Synonyms:

turning point, inflection point, point of no return, critical point
