GEF Cerrado

A project supported by the World Bank to expand the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources in the Cerrado through public policies.
This initiative was developed between 2009 and 2015 to expand the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable use of natural resources in the Cerrado in the states of Tocantins and Goiás through public policies and practices. Pilot projects carried out with resources from the World Bank (from the GEF – Global Environment Facility) and the Brazilian government included the creation and strengthening of UCs (Conservation Units), the sustainable use of biodiversity in productive regions, and the development and strengthening of public policies and monitoring. These projects served as examples for the development of actions and policies aimed at the sustainable development of other regions of the biome.
