Detection date

Date when a loss of native vegetation is detected by satellite monitoring systems.

Corresponds to the date when deforestation was detected and/or observed.When deforestation is detected it has already happened or at least started. For example, a loss of native vegetation that was detected in a certain biome and in a specific month by satellite monitoring systems may have occurred days or months before detection; it may have happened illegally or with authorization from a public agency.
