SIPAMSar
A government system that uses radar data to identify initial loss of native vegetation in areas across the Legal Amazon, even with the presence of cloud cover. The Integrated Deforestation Alert System (SIPAMSar) was launched in 2018 by the federal government to detect initial changes in the native vegetation of the Legal Amazon using data from the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), which can see the forest even when covered by clouds. Its alerts are sent to environmental inspection bodies, such as IBAMA and ICMBio, whenever a detection occurs.
