Regeneration of native vegetation

Regeneration occurs when native vegetation spontaneously returns to a deforested or degraded area.

Regeneration happens when native plants reclaim a degraded or deforested area with little or no human action. This can occur through seeds brought in by the wind or by birds and mammals, for instance. As with intentional restoration, regenerated native vegetation has the potential to resume ecosystem services.
