GLAD

A system that generates high-precision weekly alerts on changes in the state of native vegetation in tropical forests.

The GLAD (Global Analysis and Discovery) system was developed by the University of Maryland (United States), Google, and WRI (World Research Institute) to generate weekly updates on the status of tropical forests. It uses images from NASA’s Landsat satellites. Its alerts provide faster monitoring, with better definition and greater scale than the systems available in Brazil up to that point (2nd semester of 2016.) GLAD complements satellite monitoring systems already in use in the country since 2016, when it began operating.
