Removal of all native or exotic vegetation from a given area.

Elimination of all trees, shrubs, and other types of native or cultivated vegetation, regardless of their size or species. It can occur with or without the removal of stumps and roots (known as “destoca” in Portuguese). If the technique is not followed by burning the material, it facilitates the removal of products in greater quantities from the exploited area. It is commonly used for the production of wood or firewood and/or for the planting of another crop, whether agricultural, such as soy and corn, or woody crops, such as eucalyptus or Pinus.

Synonyms:

coppice, total suppression
