Amazon Fund

A project that captures and invests national and international resources to enhance the conservation and sustainable use of the Amazon.

The fund was established in 2008 and has already received funds from Norway, Germany, and Petrobras. Its management is under the responsibility of the Ministry of the Environment and the BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development). Donations are linked to the effective reduction of deforestation and serve to prevent, monitor, and combat the loss of native vegetation, and to foster conservation and sustainable use of the Amazon. It supports more than 100 projects, including production and commercial chains, support for 190 conservation units, and the regularization process of 746,000 rural properties. However, the application of resources from the Amazon Fund was frozen in the Bolsonaro government, and its management committees were dissolved. The surge in deforestation in the same period prevented new international donations.
