Primary sources of alert generation

Satellite monitoring systems that generate raw and initial information regarding the alteration of native vegetation.

At least 11 systems that monitor deforestation via satellites in Brazil generate primary data on changes in native vegetation in all biomes. They are the primary sources that generate alerts about deforestation or degradation of forests and other types of natural flora. Every warning generated by the systems is inserted into the database and undergoes a process of aggregation, validation, and refinement of alerts. Then, the data are cross-checked with other public information databases, such as protected areas, forest legislation, embargoed areas or areas under sustainable management databases, and so on. These phases qualify the alerts and allow the generation of technical reports with information relevant to the institutions and interested public. Once validated, alerts are generally published on platforms open to the public.
