Biomes
Natural regions of the country where certain types of animals, plants and climate are dominant.Brazil has six biomes: the Amazon, the Cerrado, the Atlantic Forest, the Pampa, the Pantanal, and the Caatinga. Their limits are defined by the IBGE. The term biome applies to terrestrial environments and does not yet apply to coastal and marine regions or systems. Our largest biome is the Amazon, which occupies six out of every ten hectares in the country and is home to more than 2,500 species of trees, more than 30,000 species of plants and a large part of the largest hydrographic basin in the world, with about 6 million km2 and more than 1,000 tributaries to the Amazon River.
