Net deforestation

The amount of native vegetation that was totally or partially eliminated in a given area after natural regeneration is discounted.

Net deforestation accounts for direct losses of native vegetation discounting natural recovery of forests and other vegetation types. It is the difference between total deforested area and recovered forest area.

Synonyms:

net suppression or conversion of native vegetation (more suitable for natural fields and other non-forest formations).
